HOUSE OF ROBERTS BLOG
HEY DAD,
Here is a prayer that I have for you...
In 2 Thessalonians 3:16, it says, “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” Paul, the guy who wrote this letter to a church, ends with a payer and it is one that I feel like I need to pray for you, Dad. It is a prayer for you to have peace. I think peace can be undervalued by most dads. I bet if we were to ask ten guys give me your top five things that you want for your life, I bet very few would have peace in their top five. I get it, I’m not really sure if it would even make it in my top five. With that said, let me make a case for why I think you and I need peace more than we know.
Peace is needed to make good decisions. As a dad, you make decisions all the time. Sometimes they are small and sometimes they are big, but whatever the decision is you have a better chance of making the right decision if you are experiencing peace. When peace does not exist in your life, you will make shortsighted, fearful, and tired decisions that will impact yours and your family’s life negatively. Watchman Nee said, “When my emotions are stirred up, my conscience is robbed of its normal standard of judgment.” Dad you need peace and I pray the same as Paul prayed for you, that in “every situation” or in every decision you would be given peace so that you could make wise decisions.
Peace is needed to be and stay healthy. The opposite of peace is called by many names. Names like stress, worry, or anxiety and there are plenty of studies out there proving that if those are present in your life they will drastically impact your health. They are often the catalyst for a lot of diseases, they reduce your testosterone production, and they drain you of your energy. Dad, your family needs you around, and not just present but active and healthy. A life that experiences peace is a life that is both mentally and physically healthy, it is a life that can work hard to provide for your family, while still having the energy to love your wife and love your children.
Lastly, and this is very important to know; peace can be experienced no matter what the situation. God-given peace is not the absence of something, but the presence of someone. Most of us think that if we didn’t have that job or that boss that our lives would be more peaceful. Maybe we have thought that if the economy was different or if we moved out of our state that our lives would be more peaceful. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that if a job or relationship is toxic that you shouldn’t walk away from it, because maybe you should. That aside, the peace that I believe that you need is not some state of mind to get to, it is a person you need to encounter. That person is God, the Lord of peace, and is able to give you peace at all times and in every situation. And He sent the Holy Spirit to be a channel for your to encounter that peace.
So today I pray peace over your life. I pray you encounter the Lord of Peace. I pray that it would be peace that passes all understanding. I pray that you would have peace every day and in every situation. I pray peace to you, peace to your marriage, and peace to your home.
