HOUSE OF ROBERTS BLOG

HEY MOM,

Let's be real...

Ok I promise to only ever be real with you. I am not the kind of girl to be unrealistic or not give it to you straight but here is what you should know about me, if you haven’t caught it yet…With all my REALNESS there will always be a big BUT after and let me go further after any realness I share there will always be a BUT GOD after. So now that, that’s clear and you know where I stand let me just say….LIFE IS HARD right now haha! I wish I could put an emoji here with the little sweat mark running down its face.

Yeah, I like to share the hard because sometimes we just think when we obey God it's going be all “skipping through the daisies" and well, it’s not always! Actually, the bible never promises that either. In our human nature, we crave comfort, we crave familiarity, we crave stability, we crave control, and a feeling of competency with all that’s in our hands. It’s all good, there is no shame in it and I have felt so many times in this season the Lord empathized with me about how uncomfortable it can be to follow him. He is never shaming or harsh, making you feel like a fool for feeling the way you do. He is so kind and gentle and I am telling you that I have this inner picture of me and him sitting on the floor, me weeping in discomfort and Him with His arm around me saying “ I know, I get it, it’s hard, but together we’ve got this Gab.” The very thought of this picture always humbles me, comforts me, and encourages me to stand up and keep moving forward WITH HIM.

Nothing feels cozy yet about being here in our new home of Ohio. We are so happy to be here, there is so much peace and joy in knowing that this is what God has for us, we have the sweetest friends and family all around us but so much of this faith step still requires God. Change is never easy, it's why most won’t do it. Everywhere you look you feel incompetent. Where to grocery shop, who your kid’s friends will be, where you will live, who will be your doctor, how to learn your new job, where will you fit in your workouts, how you will manage school pickups while still working, and the list goes on and on and on. It’s never easy as a grown adult to throw yourself into deep discomfort and uncertainty making you feel like you’re not a rock star at life. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND DOES THIS?

Well, those who want to follow Jesus do. See the Lord only ever calls you into places that require Him more, not less. The Bible is filled with stories of people who left what they knew to follow God. Moses, Abraham, Noah, Ruth, Joshua, David, Nehemiah, Mary, Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, and the list goes on. As you read your word, all of these people’s stories are riddled with moments of hard, uncomfortable, and uncertain from earthly standards but they were compelled to follow God. Even at the expense of their own comfort and esteem.

When I start feeling bad for myself or sad about my current discomfort, I’ll hear the Lord encourage me with, “Gabby, my girl, your name is on that list too.” All of a sudden, I sense myself in the company of heaven and it brings courage and strength to my life.

I share this not to pat myself on the back or make you feel bad for me. I share this to inspire and encourage you. I share this to motivate us to FOLLOW God no matter what the cost. I share this because sometimes we want to think that if we follow God, then it won’t hurt, but sometimes it does! Hebrews 11 tells us, “Without faith, it is impossible to God.” Faith is the substance of things hoped, the evidence of things not seen.” That means when God calls us into spaces of faith, it will FULLY require Him and His constant presence and guidance in our lives to fulfill what He has for us. It will mean that He will ask you to do something that maybe hasn’t been done before or believe in something that you haven’t seen before, others may not get it or believe it. But will we still obey God? The answer is, and I say it in faith for all of us, YES, WE WILL! Let’s be women who believe in God, women who obey God, and women who, even when it hurts or we don’t fully understand, will still fully obey! Amen? Amen!

I am praying for you all this week! Pray for me too! God is so good! Believe it!
