If you’re a dad then you’ve had that experience where one of your kids is holding onto you for dear life. Maybe it’s when you had to drop them off at their new classroom on the first day of school or when they met their favorite cartoon character for the first time in real life at Disneyland. Who knew that Bluey would be scary in the real world?! When that happens, you can barely peel your kid off of you. Well in 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul gives the same advice to us men when he says, “Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.“

Let’s break this verse down for a second. Christianity is a new way to live. It is abandoning the old way, experiencing forgiveness and freedom, and going in a different direction with God leading the way. We experience this new life by grace, through faith. In other words, we could not earn this on our own, someone had to pay the price for our sins and that person was Jesus. We then have to believe or we could say have faith that God is our Father, He knows what is best, and so we choose to make Him the Lord and leader of our lives. This new way of living Dad, is not forced upon you; each of us must make the decision to follow Jesus.

With that said, Paul tells us to hold tightly to this one truth about the gospel, and that is that God also chose you. Yes, you chose God, but He first chose you. You weren’t a second thought to God, you weren’t thrown into a deal that He made. No, God has a plan for your life and you have to hold onto that truth. That’s important because sometimes as we go through life, we can lose grip on the truth that our life matters and there is a purpose to it. Dad, you were created for a reason, you have the family that you have for a reason, you have that job for a reason; please don’t lose sight of that. Hold tight to the truth that God chose you to live a different life, and you said yes to that.

The life that you have ahead of you Dad is a good life, and it will be good because God is with you and He chose you. If you’re struggling with purpose right now or are facing a difficult season, then daily remind yourself that you were chosen by God. Hold tight to that truth and allow the Holy Spirit to make that not just something you know in your head but what you know by experience. Hold tight Dad and don’t let go, because on the other side of this moment or season is something really good. Praying for you today!
