Motherhood and Fatherhood are a wild privilege. Like the Lord in His divine order, plan, and wisdom said, “Go in multiple in the earth” aka have a family and fill the earth.” Rule and take dominion” aka teach them how to be powerful in the earth. In the New Testament, He makes a qualification in order to be a leader in the church “You must rule your house well FIRST.” I mean it wasn’t that God couldn’t have been the one to teach us all how to love him and do life well and side note He still does teach us these things. However, he delegated authority to the moms and dads of the earth to help Him lead creation well. Think about THAT! The God of creation and most powerful all in all, made SPACE for US to help him rule. Even from Adam, he was training us, making space for us, and showing us how to lead. When I look at this I see His nature-- a kind communal Father wanting and not needing to do life with His kids. 

It’s with that delegated authority we have been given from God that WHO we are gets multiplied into the next generation. This thought holds me accountable as a mom. I am very aware that who I am gets transferred into them. That the battles I am unwilling to fight in my own life, they will have to! Some may say this is a sad or slightly condemning thought but I actually think there are things we should have a HOLY FEAR about. A reverence and honor for that holds us accountable to a HIGHER way of living. This is one of those thoughts for me! Ok to lighten the mood, let me remind all of us that God’s goodness and grace is with us always, and where we fail or fall or are weak He is always right there covering and helping. It’s who He is! 

Let me also remind you that until Jesus comes back or we are with Him in heaven we will constantly be being formed into His image. It’s a continual work that never ends and truly that is kind of the fun and adventure of it all. The work is never complete in me until that day. I remember I had the thought years ago “I wish you would just do all the work you need to in me all at once Lord.” Very quickly the Holy Spirit responded “You couldn’t handle it” Ha! He is so right! It’s his gracious and merciful way of forming us into His image. It’s a day-by-day, season-by-season work in us that we have to surrender and yield to, knowing that WITH HIM we have the strength, grace, and wisdom to do it. 

I’ve decided as a mom IT’S WORTH IT! It’s worth the continual sanctification so that what I transfer to my children is good! Not perfect but good! They will have their own journey to take with God but I believe that because I will do mine they will do theirs because I will have TRANSFERRED that! 

• If we want them to be brave WE have to show them how to be brave!
• If we want them to be kind WE have to show them how to be kind
• If we want them to obey God WE have to show them how to obey God
• If we want them to be generous WE have to show them how to be generous
• If we want them to love the presence of God WE have to show them how to love the presence of God

You get the point. This is the authority and commission God has given us and the channel He put in place for generations to come to learn who He is and how to do life with Him well and powerfully. Now, in God’s goodness and love for us, He will always step in and do these things in the next generation in spite of us, but I’d rather Him do it WITH US!

Praying for us all this week! That we would say yes to the continual work of God in our lives! Allow a Holy Fear to settle in and call you higher and keep you accountable to a whole way of living. I pray you will sense the goodness, grace, and love of God that is with you! He is with you!
